International
International NAP and business data consistency for AI search
International NAP consistency means maintaining an authoritative identity record for every real business location and distributing it accurately across websites, maps, directories, social profiles and structured data. Consistency does not mean forcing identical formatting worldwide. Local address order, scripts, abbreviations and phone presentation can differ while the underlying entity stays the same. Give each location a stable identifier, approved local and Latin-script names where relevant, complete contact details, service attributes and an owner. Then audit high-value surfaces and correct material conflicts first.
Model entities instead of copying strings
A literal string comparison will flag harmless differences such as "Street" versus "St." while missing a serious error such as a shared phone number routed to the wrong country. Store structured fields for legal entity, customer-facing location name, address components, coordinates, phone, opening hours, service area and canonical URL. Include local script, transliteration and alternate names only when they are genuinely used. Stable internal IDs let teams recognize one branch across systems even when a platform formats the address differently.
- Canonical location ID and relationship to the parent organization or regional entity.
- Local display name, legal name, approved alternate names and language or script.
- Postal address components in local standard plus verified coordinates where appropriate.
- Internationally normalized phone value and the locally displayed calling format.
- Opening hours, holiday exceptions, appointment rules, service area and accessibility attributes.
- Canonical local URL, profile URLs, status, source owner and last verification date.
Separate formatting variation from factual conflict
Create comparison rules by country. Normalize punctuation, whitespace, common abbreviations and phone formatting before classifying a mismatch. Treat wrong city, postcode, coordinates, country code, branch status or routing number as material. A translated business descriptor may be valid; an invented local brand name is not. Publish the form customers recognize locally while retaining clear parent-brand identity. When multiple businesses share a building, use suite or floor details consistently and provide distinct contact paths so sources do not merge them.
Prioritize sources by customer and retrieval value
Start with owned location pages and major map or business profiles, then review industry directories, chambers, marketplace listings, social profiles and data aggregators that matter in each market. Do not chase every low-quality mention. Score a source by visibility, authority, factual impact and ability to correct it. Record submitted changes and verification status because platforms may retain old data. Closed or relocated branches deserve an explicit workflow: update the canonical record, owned page, profiles and high-value citations before adding redirects.
- Build a location registry from verified operational and legal records.
- Assign market owners who can confirm addresses, phones, hours and service areas.
- Crawl owned pages and compare normalized facts with the registry.
- Audit the most visible third-party profiles in each target country and language.
- Correct material conflicts, document platform delays and retest after processing.
- Schedule change-triggered and periodic verification instead of relying on a one-time cleanup.
Connect business-data hygiene to answer monitoring
Use the schema generator to draft LocalBusiness markup that matches visible location pages, then check it with the schema validator. The Wikidata checker can help inspect public entity data, but it should not be edited merely for promotion or treated as the sole source of truth. Configure ModelSaid scan language, country and city and use custom prompts to ask about address, hours, phone and service coverage. Results may differ with phrasing, location context, retrieval and personalization, so require corroboration before declaring a source fixed. Keep the testing protocol extensible as additional models become part of customer journeys.
